Lent (Latin: Quadragesima,’Fortieth’) is the solemn observance in the liturgical year commemorating the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan, as described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, before beginning his public ministry. This is a time of fasting, repentance, and contemplation.
About Us
We are a two-point Lutheran parish (serving a vacant third) – a proud part of the Lutheran Church-Canada – located in Southwest Ontario. The congregations of our parish have been around for more than a century – First Lutheran in Logan was founded in 1858, Redeemer Lutheran in Monkton was founded in 1898, and Saint Paul’s Lutheran in Tavistock was founded in 1881. For generations, we have been meeting together as one people under Christ.
Our Beliefs and Confessions
That God, out of pure love, gives people forgiveness of sins to reconcile them to Himself. (John 3:16)
That the bible is the inerrant word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16)
That all mankind are sinners, with no exceptions. All of humanity is in need of forgiveness and restoration. (Romans 3:23)
That one baptism is required for salvation. (Ephesians 4:5)
That the only path to salvation lies in our Lord Jesus Christ, who shed His blood to save us on the cross of Golgotha. (John 14:6)
That God is truly present in, with and under the consecrated host of the Lord’s Supper. (Matthew 26:26)
That the best exposition of the Word of God is found in the Unaltered Augsburg Confession as found in the Book of Concord.
That complete agreement in our basic doctrines are required for someone to partake of the Lord’s Supper in our churches. (Acts 2:46) Please speak with our pastor if you are visiting and wish to attend!
